About Community Links

We are a social enterprise with 8 years of experience of working with individuals, families, agencies, schools and preschools.  We believe that high quality provision and effective early intervention is key to achieving the best possible results for our clients.

Community Links SW CIC currently offer Support Services, Befriending and Music Education. As well as our direct services, we work closely with agencies and other organisations who can provide further specialist support.

We continually look for ways to provide support within communities, and our services evolve to reflect new areas of need. We are open to partnership working and happy to help schools and other organisations access funding to enable them to buy in our services. We work creatively to try and plug the gaps in service provision which exist in the rural south-west.

Our services are professional, safe and effective. We operate within a framework which ensures adherence to safeguarding, safe recruitment and data protection requirements. We monitor, evaluate and review our services to ensure we deliver to a high standard.

We are a not for profit organisation, and any surplus funds are reinvested in our services.

How to Fund our Services

Each of our core services has different sources of funding and various eligibility criteria. We can provide many services at a subsidised rate, or with a voluntary donation. Alternatively, our services are available at a bought in rate. If, however, you are an organisation thinking about buying in our services, we may be able to help you access funding and would be happy to explore this possibility with you. Further information can be found within each of our core services.

The Development of Community Links

Community Links evolved from the Extended Services for Schools initiative, working with the Okehampton Learning Community providing Speech and Language Support, Behaviour Support, Family Support, and Thrive for schools. We also provided governance, financial management, teaching and learning CPD, and coordination of the Music Education Grant.

Always keen to provide enhanced opportunities for young people, Community Links successfully ran the large project Don’t Stop Me Now! We accessed over £80,000 of government funding for extra-curricular activities for children and young people on free school meals. Experience of this project and of organising the schools’ Music Education Grant put us in a great position to bid for the funding being offered by Okehampton United Charity for music provision and in 2014 the Okehampton Music Centre was born!

Good links the West Devon Children, Young People and Families Alliance and schools, and our track record in delivering family support, contributed to Community Links to be appointed by Devon County Council to assist in the provision of the Targeted Family Support Programme. Initially coordinating the Okehampton pilot scheme, Community Links continued to provide coordination and family support services across Devon, through this scheme, until it evolved into its current form, Early Help. Community Links can help families access this service; this help may come in the form of our support services.

In 2014 Community Links developed an Early Years provision. Traditionally run by volunteer led charities, many preschools struggle to find enough parent volunteers to take on the responsibilities involved. Community Links is able to support preschools, helping ensure that quality Early Years provision is maintained in rural communities.

The Community Hub at Okehampton College

In 2010 we accessed a capital grant of £30,000 to convert community rooms at Okehampton College into a Community Hub. The hub currently includes offices, a counselling room, a small meeting room, a kitchen and a classroom. We share the Hub with Tor Support Services, a charity providing counselling for children and young people, and one of our preschools.

Meeting rooms and desks are used by a number of partner organisations who are to see clients in the area. If you are an agency and would like to use our meeting room to see a local client, please contact us to see if there is availability.
